What time management can do

Overnight successes usually take around 5 to 15 years. Is this true? I read an article about this once a long time ago and it stuck with me. Excelling at your craft surely is a matter of practice, right? But if you are in business, you also need a lot of time to build the backbone of your business. And if you are an artist, they are infamous for being not so great at the 'business side' of their businesses. I am such an artist who reluctantly learned and applied much of what I learned to 'the business side' of my business. It all takes time but no sweat, it all seems very fast. I just completed 15 years in business. It seems like it was only yesterday that I started... And it has been quite a ride :)

The savvy and practices of your industry are very important. Having a good business sense and practices is also very important and it takes time to develop your artistic and your business style. But there needs to be a balance between building the business and honing your craft. So now, I am learning to better manage my time and I make time in my day, my week and my month to work on my craft. I am refining, learning, taking classes and practicing new techniques regularly.

Every now and again, I need a bit of reassurance and there is nothing like an award for validation. Even a small one like a Bronze Merit. One from the Portrait Masters is not at all small and is quite an accolade. It means to be recognized by my peers and mentors. I have to say, I am extremely proud to have been awarded Bronze Merits and I will continue to strive to achieve even better.

Thank you Sue Bryce and The Portrait Masters team!! The next submissions will be on in the next few weeks.. And I am stoked!
